Mitsubishi UFJ Global Custody (MUGC) was incorporated in 1974 as a 99.99% owned subsidiary of The Bank of Tokyo Ltd. at the time. Since then, MUGC has established a strong reputation mainly in the field of global custody services.

In April 2007, MUGC's ownership structure was changed. The company was jointly recapitalized by MUTB (67%), The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (30%) and The Master Trust Bank of Japan, Ltd.(3%) through investment by MUTB. The purpose of this recapitalization was to reinforce global custody services.

Luxembourg, where MUGC is located, hosts the world's second largest investment trust balance.

Luxembourg champions financial services as its main industry. Therefore, it has put in place a well-developed legal system and infrastructure for the financial services sector.
