Socially Responsible Investment (SRI)

As one of Japan's leading asset managers, we believe it is our corporate social responsibility to help realize a sustainable society together with our clients through responsible investment. In fact, we were one of the first Japanese financial institutions to sign the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment.

We launched a Japanese equity SRI fund for Japanese pension funds in June 2006, and assets under management have now reached US$90million (JPY6.9 billion) (as end of September 2011). The investment objective is to outperform the Japanese equity market. We believe environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues form part of the fabric of the environment in which companies operate. Thus our SRI Strategy takes a best-in-class approach, taking into consideration both financial and non-financial factors, and invests in companies whose approach to ESG issues is expected to contribute to long-term, sustainable earnings growth.
